Experiment with the failure library for error handling
That's an interesting alternate take on Rust error handling. It would be nice to port to it and see how it differs from error-chain and if it feels better for this use case.
Error checking
Couldn't you avoid that big match statement in your main() function by adding a suitable implementation for Display on your error type?
You may also want to implement std::error::Error on each of the error types as well. Otherwise I know error-chain is a well accepted tool to use for doing error handling nicely.
Generate numerical prefix operators using macros
The repetition... it burns!
