Including a utility file in test folder thrown error about karma-dart

Make sure that your utility dart file is not configured to be "included" in karma, only served/watched.
For example:

files = [
  {pattern: '**/*_test.dart', included: true},
  {pattern: 'test_utility.dart', included: false}
  ...
];

The way karna dart unittest adapter works, is it generates code that invokes main methods of ALL included files, so all included files must have main methods.

can't you detect a main method and call it only if present?

Technically it could detect if a main method exists in the included library, but honestly I don't really see the benefit if this can easily be avoided with correctly configured file patterns.

In the future I was thinking we could decouple dart runner from unittest adapter, for example if needed to support other dart testing libraries, then we would need something like this.
