As u are building a "commented" python project, why don't you use tools such as Jupyter / IPython Notebooks. It would be, I think, totaly relevant for your use-case.

It is also fully rendered by Github, have a look to this tool, which will allow you to run IPython Notebook locally: https://www.continuum.io/downloads
