publicfox's Issues

Australis customize button bypasses lock

Using ff29.0.1 on Win7, with "Lock toolbar customization" selected. The Customize (three horizontal stripes) button on the navigation bar opens the Customize Firefox tab directly without triggering the password request.

Block choosen firefox option...

People need to be able to change the proxy setting when they need, and if I want to block access to my stored password, I need to block All the option and than they can't change proxy setting.
Anything possible with this?
Thank you!

Acces to folders security issue

Is there a way to hide or password the Troubleshooting information access to the folders? I realize that the folder is accessible from user account both in Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but it's to deter average users from "fishing" around.

whitelist option removed? - version 1.06

Was the whitelist option removed on purpose? (version 1.06)
I see this on line 61 of chrome/content/options.xul

If I undo the commenting, the whitelist functionality seems to still exist...

Just another bypass

The Lock Addons option can easily be bypassed by restarting and then immediately enter the Addons menu without delay.

Licensing

I am working to create a public kiosk in a project I am working on. I have reviewed Public Fox 1.09 and believe that it would be useful in my project; however, I am trying to use all GPL software. I did not see the licensing information on the download page or in the source code. I would like to know if Public Fox can be utilized under the GPL. Thanks in advance. Great Add-On.

Firefox 5

It says that is is not compatible with Firefox 5 after installation.

Importing block list does not work

Browser: Mozilla Firefox 53.0.2
Addon version: 1.11.6.1-signed.1-signed
Addons: None except for Public Fox

Action: Importing a blacklist.txt containing list of blacklisted domains each on its own line, in the format: http://*blacklisted-domain.com/*

No option to put in password to download.

In earlier versions you could enter the password to allow a download of a blocked extension. In order to do that with this version you have to disable publicfox, download and then re-enable.

Bookmarks lock bypass

As of firefox 45.7.0 it's possible to bypass the bookmark lock:

1- Hit Ctrl+B
2- Enter any password
3- Bookmarks sidebar is accessible

Public fox and (Firefox 4.0.1)

with the new (Firefox 4.0.1) public fox can be disabled in the help menu by restarting Firefox with no add-ons is there a way to fix this or will there be a update that will fix this?

not protect

Hi. for url about:addons, about:preferences protect worked. For url about:preferences?entrypoint=menupanel#sync - not worked.

History deleted

I put Public Fox on my son's computer, password protected everything, and he still deletes the history every day. I have no idea how he's doing it. I setup a restricted Guest account so I can control some of the programs he uses. What can I do to make it more difficult for him to remove the history from Firefox 9.0.1?

lock black lists file:///c/

Hello.
I've checked that it's possible to bypass the black list. The type urls: file:///c/. Firefox 4.0.1
It worked fine in Firefox 3.6.
Thanks

the older version is way way way much better !!

I tried to lock it with password but cant dl using password, it only puts password when opening options and add'on. The next thing is yes it blocks dl file but no password when you wanted to dl the chosen file type. The last thing is yes it blocks certain file for me such as exe and rar but it dosent prevent mp3 mp4 and way much more, it would be better if you just let the legacy publicfox to run in the new firefox, the update of fire fox was good but this add'on is a mess.

Ability to remove / disable Public Fox

I'm exploring the use of Public Fox for a deployment of Firefox in a corporate setting that would require a secure environment (and I hope that Public Fox can be the answer!!)

I love that you can't add additional plug-ins with Public Fox. I discovered today that I can both disable and remove Public Fox from my add-ons without being prompted for the password.

Am I doing something wrong?

PublicFox 2.0: Password not working

I'm using PublicFox 2.0.
I set it to block options, about:config and about:addons configs with a password.
I enter the password (I'm sure it's the right one and that i'm typing it correctly) and press continue but it simply does nothing

Preferences access granted via Content Blocking

Hi,

While the "Preferences" access is password locked by this extension, clicking on the "Content Blocking" menu option gives full access to the Preferences... Easy! :)

Moreover, "Login and Passwords" menu option might also be protected by this extension.

White List

Why don't work White list for Site? I need install BlockSite addon for this option. Hope in future i can use it in Public Fox. Sorry for my English. I am from Ukraine.

[PATCH] Block about:config#

Currently users are able to access about:config by entering about:config# in the address bar.

This patch prevents this:

BUG: addon easiliy bypassable

Trying to access Preferences via menu or about:preferences prompts to input the password, as it should.

But jumping directly to a subsection, like:

  • about:preferences#general
  • about:preferences#privacy
  • about:preferences#search
  • about:preferences#sync

is enough for having the controls totally bypassed.

Such bug makes the addon useless.

Ask password on first run

Hi there! Let me go direct to the issue: on a Windows system, everytime a new user log into de system the "Public Fox" ask for the password.

We use "Public Fox" to block user access to configuration. We copy in;

  • c:\Program files\Mozilla friefox\extension\ --> a custom "Public Fox" installation
  • c:\Program files\Mozilla friefox\prefs.js --> the "Public Fox" needed parameters

So everytime a new user log into the computer they all share the same config and with the same parameters, but, to everyone and just on the first run the password is asked. Can we do anything to avoid this? or we've done somethig wrong?

Thanks in advanced

Bookmarks?

On the addon page the comment reads «Block downloads, lock down bookmarks/addons/downloads with a password».

But the addon cannot prevent accessing and/or changing the bookmarks, can it?

Nothing prevents the user from using "Restart with addons disabled".

Even if PublicFox is set to require a password before a user can access the Firefox preferences a user can get round this by using the menu option "Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled..."
This disables PublicFox and allows the user to access all the menus in Firefox etc. It also allows the user to Reset their profile which will remove PublicFox.

sidebar X will not close the bookmarks or history sidebars

Public Fox 1.08 Add-on is disabling the close sidebar X in the latest version of Firefox 3.6.12, it worked fine before this update.
The close sidebar X will not close the bookmarks or history sidebars when Public Fox is enabled. It worked fine before the latest update to Firefox, 3.6.12

Lock "Customize" access

I can remove any add-on by un-hiding it from the "Customize" options.
No point of locking "add-ons" now if I can easily uninstall the add-on/extension from the toolbar.

Thanks!

* not working

Using * not working at public fox. Plz fix this. Using exe, bat, pdf work fine

Firefox 3.6.4

Hi
Extension on Mozilla website is supposedly compatible with 3.6.* but it won't install on latest firefox 3.6.4.

Revision on mozilla should be changed or (better) compatible extension released
Thanks!

Problems with Firefox 79

Hello.
It seems that the extension has compatibility issues with new Firefox version.
The way to reproduce the issue:

  1. Install Public Fox and set to block everything (extension page, settings, etc.) with a password. Blacklist is disabled.
  2. Update Firefox to the last version
  3. You can't open the protected pages - after entering the password you will be redirected to the "enter password" page again.

1 or 2 are interchangeable. You can install Public Fox after update - result would be the same.

Is Publicfox Dead?

I see no activity in the last 4 years along with the addon being broken. I assume there are alternatives but im stuck looking for them.

Download lock bypass

It's possible to bypass the download lock using the left alt + click, which then opens a save as dialog box or automatically starts downloading depending on your setup.

tested on 3.6.12 linux
