NASA-3D-Resources

Welcome to the 3D Resources github site. Here you'll find a growing collection of 3D models, textures, and images from inside NASA. All of these resources are free to download and use.

Please read the Usage Guidelines here:

http://www.nasa.gov/audience/formedia/features/MP_Photo_Guidelines.html

Our team's goal is to provide a one-stop shop for 3D models, images, textures, and visualizations. We offer these assets for your use, free and without copyright. We recognize that the site is only as good as its contributors and thank them kindly.

We welcome feedback and comments. Tell us how you're using our models, and let us know what you think: [email protected]

We acknowledge and thank the many authors who have contributed to the 3D Resources collections.

Polygon data unit/scale of the Bennu asteroid

Dear all,
I downloaded your 3D Bennu Radar.obj of Bennu asteroid to use this polygon data. Actually, the coordinate of vertices have very small values and it cause some trouble in the other calculation.
Would you help me to know more about edge coordinates unit ('m' or 'km' unit or scale size?)?
If I can know in anyway, please let me know.

Duplicated Geometry In LEM Model

Just been doing some work with the file “3D Models/Apollo Lunar Module/lunarlandernofoil_carbajal.3ds”, and I have discovered that the geometry for the main part of the legs on the descent stage has been put in twice.

What's the unit or scale of this model?

I want to make a model out of this model, but not sure what's the unit or scale of this.
When I open it with Blender and measure its width, it says a number of 81, which doesn't seem like meter nor feet.

Report On Missing Dependencies

Many .blend files are missing external texture files. Enclosed is a report generated according to

for f in $(find . -name \*.blend  -not -exec ext-files --test-missing {} ';' -print); do
    echo
    echo "${f}:"
    ext-files --presence "$f"
done

where the ext-files command comes from my render-useful repo. Each “missing:” line reports the name of a missing file.

In total, 72 .blend files are missing 323 dependency files.

LWO version missing images

I'm very pleased to see you have a version of the JWST model for LightWave 3D (JWST-2016-Composite.lwo). Unfortunately, the images are not included with the model. Is there a way to get them?

How do you print this item and get it to work?

Without clear parameters on how to print the ratchet wrench uplink.stl I find it impossible to get it to work correctly. Even at the finest resolution of my Flashforge Dreamer the ratchet mechanism will not budge. Has anybody gotten this to work correctly? Ever?

Landing Points

Amazing resources here in the Apollo landing site scans, do we have any data available for finding the actual landing point on these models? Is it centered?

SLS OBJ

There's no actual OBJ file in this path:
NASA-3D-Resources/3D Models/SLS Block 1 - obj/

I'm not sure what can be done with the MTL file without the OBJ.

License

I'm assuming this stuff is public domain, but please state so somewhere on the front page. Thanks.

Suggest adding image of completed print to M2020 Rover

M2020 Rover model:
I suggest adding an image of the full assembly so that users can see what the finished product looks like. CAD image is fine, photo of print is better. Assembly instructions give a preview of the look of the model, but leave me wanting more.

Looks to be a great model! looking forward to printing it.

Error Loading Perseverance.glb VALUE_NOT_IN_RANGE

Currently 1 glTF validation error for NASA-3D-Resources/3D Models/perseverance-GLB/GLB/Perseverance.glb

Here is the error reported by Khronos glTF Validator

{
    "code": "VALUE_NOT_IN_RANGE",
    "message": "Value 1.0000001192092896 is out of range.",
    "severity": 0,
    "pointer": "/materials/36/pbrMetallicRoughness/baseColorFactor"
},

We discovered the error while trying to import the 3D model into both our own solution and Windows 3D Viewer. Neither could load the file.

BROKEN FILE !

3D model ISS.fbx in folder ISS (IGOAL), damaged some elements and inverted coordinates

Flawed rotations in ISS (IGOAL) model

Some of the components in the ISS (IGOAL) model are not properly rotated. Examples include the entire JEM, and the handrails on the ends of the Columbus Module. Below shows how a number of the modules are highly rotated.

Gazebo

Can I port these models to Gazebo and open source them with a remark from where I obtained them?

With kind regards

Martin

Space in directory leads to clone/checkout errors on windows

Hello, I just tried to clone the repository and got the following error (I use tortoisegit, didn't try console directly, but I guess the space should not be there anyway):

error: unable to create file 3D Models/CloudSat /Cloudsat.fbx (No such file or directory)
fatal: cannot create directory at '3D Models/CloudSat /__MACOSX': No such file or directory

Problem is the space in/after CloudSat.
I guess the __MACOSX folders could also be removed!?
Thank you and have a nice day!

Colon in folder name

This repo has the following folder name:

3D Models\OSTM:Jason-2

However, colons are not valid on Win platforms, so a git checkout on a clone of the repo fails. Can the folder be renamed?

internationals units

in building instructions:
example

in part list we can see filenames are in millimeters, but the description of print bed is in inches. please use only metrics system, past proved than mix different units systems could lead to very bad things :/

M2020-Model-Rover-STLs512020 Missing Piece

On the M2020-Model-Rover-STLs512020 model, the piece which sits between the chassis and the rsa lower mast (the lower half of the hinge) is missing from the ZIP file.

A few missing files...

Hello,
I have Forked the resources and cloned localy. I was looking for SSO-3DS folder/Model that I have based my models after but could not find it in the resources. The files is on NASA 3D Resources website. I made an attempt to contact DigitalSpace Corporation to see if they wouldn't mind if I uploaded it here on github, I have not heard from them as of yet.

[project request] - interesting AI project - fft impulse response into 3d model

[project request] - interesting AI project - fft impulse response into 3d model

it would be interesting to:

  • sample a fft impulse response consisting of:
  • conversion from áudio domain into fft domain of things like:
    • electromagnetic spectrums
    • sounds
    • visual spectrums

the process is simple:

  • conversion of signals into cartesian and polar coordinates
  • modelling behaviour of interesting devices
  • optimizing the model with ai and permutation of value tables
  • testing
  • optimzing
  • repeating the process

Porsche already used that for cars, and so do probably audi and bosch, but it would be amazing to see it done for nasa 3d models, if you guys are not already doing it
