nwb_hackathons's Issues

proposal to use Git LFS for large files

Problem

With the inclusion of several large PDF and ZIP files, this repo is getting quite large. That has caused problems for me pulling and pushing, and I expect the problem to get worse as we add more reports and possibly other types of large files.

Proposed Solution

I propose we try using Git LFS. There are some nice guides for how to:

  1. Install Git LFS: https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/working-with-files/managing-large-files/installing-git-large-file-storage
  2. Configure Git LFS for specific file types: https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/working-with-files/managing-large-files/configuring-git-large-file-storage
  3. Move existing files in your repository to Git LFS storage: https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/working-with-files/managing-large-files/moving-a-file-in-your-repository-to-git-large-file-storage

Proposal for website design and redevelopment

[I hope you want a developer that can get things done for your website and this makes it possible for me to contact you directly without any third party broker like Upwork]

Table of contents

Hi,

This is a proposal for development of NWB Workshops and Hackathons website as per your Upwork job post.

1) Project summary

Redesign and redevelopment of NWB Workshops and Hackathons website to be more user friendly and attractive with SEO features.

2) Detailed project analysis

  • Current deployed website uses Jekyll static site generator with
    • Jekyll Primer theme
    • Site is a list of events ( workshops and hackathons )
    • No third party application used in any page
    • No current blog functionality. No mention of requirement of blog as well.

3) Deliverables

  • New design for the website
  • New Jekyll layouts development as per the design
  • Integration with CMS ( like Tina ) for ease of adding or editing content
  • Deployment on chosen service provider
  • Project handover with training ( limited ) and documentation as required
  • After sale 30 days support to find and fix bugs

4) Detailed Solution

I will design and build the website as per your requirement ( design and functionality ) using Jekyll static site generator. The following is my detailed solution for the current project :

4.1) Design

  • I will design a layout that makes it easy for user to find information and connect with your events with ease. I will create fresh layouts using design cues from websites you like and my own inputs
  • Some of the sample designs are:
    • Devfest
      • Easy to hold large content
    • Vixcon
      • Attractive and modern
    • Eventre
      • Simple yet flexible
    • Codathon
      • Design and functionality needs to be adapted

4.2) Site Generator

4.3) Site design and functionality

  • I suggest using Bootstrap CSS (v5) for CSS. Bootstrap will enable
    • Responsive website with large compatibility of devices and browsers
    • Easier addition of new design elements as per requirement
  • jQuery and other JS scripts might be used for adding functionality to website
  • You don't have any forms on the website. I can setup forms as per your requirement like email subscription forms

4.4) Deployment

  • Your current site seem to be hosted at Github Pages. I will deploy the website at your chosen deployment provider. You may chose others as well like free plans at Cloudflare pages, Netlify, Render etc. Which are customized for static sites.

4.5) Handover training and after sale support

  • I will provide you website management training as per your requirement with live video session ( 1 hour should be enough ) along with documentation as per your requirement
  • 30 days after sale free support will be provider to make sure you are comfortable using the website and immediate visible bugs can be fixed or solution specified
  • I have a dedicated ticket based customer support system which you can use to report any malfunction in the site or any feature requirement. I will respond within 24 hours.

5) Workflow

  • Setup of project at Github or Gitlab as per requirement
    • Setup of issues and milestones for easier project management with detailed timeline estimation
  • Setup of demo site for quick daily feedback on work done
  • Implementation of review and recommendations daily
  • Weekly testing and implementation of review and feedback
  • Deployment and project handover
  • After sale 30 days free support for finding and fixing bugs etc.

6) Time and cost

  • It will take me 50 hours spread over 15 days to design, code, test and deploy the website.
  • At my current work rate of 30 USD per hour, the project will cost you 1500 USD. ( Quotation attached ). In case you want to use any other currency ( like EUR ), please do let me know.
  • Project will be divided into 4 milestones.
    • The first milestone is payable to start the project
    • Second and further milestones payable after completion of respective milestones

6.1) Payment method

  • You can pay via
    • Payoneer ( Preferred )
      • If you are paying via a company account, I can accept payment using my local US or EU bank account
    • PayPal
    • Upwork

  • I excel in creating multilingual websites
  • I am fast and cost effective Jekyll developer
  • I aim to work for long term so customer satisfaction is a key driver in my work
  • Regular work updates and faster after sale support

7.1) My recent static sites

Explicit time zone for Hack09?

The agenda reads:
"The workshop schedule is centered around 9am-6pm Central European Time."

Does this refer to CET (UTC+1) or CEST (UTC+2)? CEST is Central European Summer Time, and will be in effect in EU countries at the time of the meeting.

Either way, I think it would be best to list the UTC offset for the sake of being explicit.

(Hoping to drop in and see some of you all online in a few weeks!)

Add NWB GUIDE instructions for conversion workshop

Since GUIDE will likely be a main tool for the conversion workshop it will be useful to add links to installation instructions for GUIDE on the website (once ready) here:

## What to bring?
* Bring any example data sets needed for your project with you to the hackathon. For any lab-specific data (i.e.,
data not in NWB), you should know how to read the data using Python or MATLAB and ideally have scripts ready for
reading the data.
* Bring your laptop with appropriate software installed. For installation instructions see:
* [**PyNWB (Python)**](https://pynwb.readthedocs.io/en/stable/install_users.html).
* [**MatNWB (Matlab)**](https://neurodatawithoutborders.github.io/matnwb/)
* For an overview of NWB software, see also:
* [**Glossary of Core NWB Tools**](https://nwb-overview.readthedocs.io/en/latest/core_tools/core_tools_home.html)
* [**Glossary of Analysis and Visualization Tools**](https://nwb-overview.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tools/tools_home.html)
* For an overview of NWB see the [**NWB Overview Docs**](https://nwb-overview.readthedocs.io)

site not updated

I don't see the latest update on the website and it has been 15 hrs. @CodyCBakerPhD is it possible that this might have something to do with the changes you made to enable site preview?
