pism-ais's Introduction

PISM, a Parallel Ice Sheet Model

doi_ gpl_ cipism_

The Parallel Ice Sheet Model is an open source, parallel, high-resolution ice sheet model:

  • hierarchy of available stress balances
  • marine ice sheet physics, dynamic calving fronts
  • polythermal, enthalpy-based conservation of energy scheme
  • extensible coupling to atmospheric and ocean models
  • verification and validation tools
  • documentation for users and developers
  • uses MPI and PETSc for parallel simulations
  • reads and writes CF-compliant NetCDF files

PISM is jointly developed at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF) and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). UAF developers are based in the Glaciers Group at the Geophysical Institute.

Please see ACKNOWLEDGE.rst and doc/funding.csv for a list of grants supporting PISM development.

pism-ais's Issues

Srun error in cdo_remap.sh arise from remap.py of bedmap2

Hello everyone. I encountered a problem during the preprocessing step of bedmap2: after running remap.py, the cdo_remap.sh script was generated, and an error occurred when I used this shell script. The error is as follows: cdo_remap.sh: Line 20: module: Command not found
cdo_remap.sh: Line 21: module: Command not found
srun: invalid option -'P'
srun: error: Invalid numeric value "cdo" for --ntasks.
srun: invalid option -'P'
srun: invalid option -'f'
srun: error: Invalid numeric value "cdo" for --ntasks.
I did not find an effective solution to this problem and was troubled by this problem for a long time. Could anyone help provide some advice? Thank you very much!

Question about input data -velocity

Hello everyone,
2021-05-20 15-26-01

I have a question about the input data of the regional simulation. Why is ice velocity data needed in the input data of the regional simulation? The ice velocity is calculated from the ice thickness and topography as the output variable of the simulation results. So what does it mean to add ice velocity to the input variable?

Thanks in advance for your time.

RACMO2 data

When I tried to preprocess the RECMO data repeatedly and process the recom-ice2sea script, it prompted the lack of input Racmo data (HadCM3_c20_I2S_precip_Y.nc HadCM3_c20_I2S_t2m_Y.nc ).
Then I followed the script file instructions to find cited articles and related websites, but I still couldn't find any data to download.
If you have this data, could you provide it? Or tell me how to find and download this data? Thank you for your help!

downloading bedmap2 data

To be able to download the bedmap2 dataset I needed to add "--no-check-certificate" to the wget command in bedmap2/download_and_extract_to_nc.py

InitMIP input data

When I tried to preprocess the initMIP data repeatedly and process the relevant script, it prompted the lack of input data (initmip_16km_input.nc). Although I have found the dSMB\dBasalMelt data on https://zenodo.org/record/2651652, but I did not find the input data.
Could you tell me where you can find this data?

In addition, when I executed the same prepross script, I found that opttphi_056_initmip4km_nomassoceanconst_amundsenm0p37/snapshots_2450.nc was needed. What information does this file represent? I have processed most of the previous data and did not find this result. What information does this represent? Where should I get this result?

Thank you for your help!

use cdo remap weights if available

cdo remap creates weights, a huge matrix which involves many calculations, and then applies the remap to a given data field. If weights are calculated once, pism-ais should look for previously produced weights and use them...

zwally vs. icesat basins

Please update link for Zwally basins. What is the difference between the two?
Please also add information on Shimada data!

High-res picture of bedrock (bedrock2)

Hello, and thanks for the tools!

I would like to obtain a picture, of the highest possible resolution, of Antarctica's bedrock (best would be black and white). But a "simple" matrix of data that I could then plot would be perfectly fine as well. From what I've seen, the bedrock2 dataset would be what I look for... but I have no idea what to do then to get what I want. Is it even possible? Would it be easy? Any pointers are much welcome!

Thanks a lot in advance, and apologies if it's a silly question; it's absolutely not my field 😁

Migrate python2 to python3

The python code was originally designed to run in a python2 environment. To keep up to date with common python environment, the code base needs update to python3. This can be done with tools like 2to3.

add on: add instruction to build a suitable python environment with anaconda with all packages that are required
