It seems that a fresh install of ros-indigo-desktop-full does not install navigation packages like move_base, amcl, etc. However, the description above the installation instructions reads:
Desktop-Full Install: (Recommended) : ROS, rqt, rviz, robot-generic libraries, 2D/3D simulators, navigation and 2D/3D perception

It looks like the desktop_full
variant doesn't include rqt_plot
, probably because the viz
variant doesn't include rqt_common_plugins
urdf_tutorials now depends on gazebo_ros which depends on gazebo which is not available on indigo armhf. And the simulator is not supposed to be part of desktop.
@sloretz Is this related to the urdf repo restructuring?

Noticed this during an audit of our package install. Should probably be removed for Indigo.
Sorry to throw this here, I am not sure if it is the right place, but I'm hoping.
When I run rosinstall_generator desktop_full --rosdistro melodic --deps --tar > melodic-desktop-full.rosinstall
the resulting .rosinstall
file includes navigation_msgs/map_msgs
, but NOT navigation_msgs/move_base_msgs
This seems like an oversight, but I do not understand the system well enough to know were to report this or who to ask.
I noticed that the ROS docker images on DockerHub are outdated. Should we make it a best practice that every new release of this repository be followed by regenerating the dockerfiles in https://github.com/osrf/docker_images

Is it intentional that metapackage robot
also depends on joint_state_publisher? Apparently it was like this for a long time.
It is the only GUI package that introduces a dependency on python_qt_binding and hence Qt and X11. The description of the metapackage clearly states that "it may not contain any GUI dependencies".
Maybe a confusion with the joint_state_listener
executable in package robot_state_publisher?
