uncrustifyx's Issues

Can't Read '.cfg' and Documentation MIA

Had this working in the spring as was thrilled it existed. Used some code generators and batch-fixed their output, best thing since sliced bread (almost).

Reloaded now and there is no functionality. (?!?) Download has no dictionary and no default config. Worse yet, located my old default config ".cfg" and it just spews errors in UncrustifyX.

And the documentation is empty:
documentation

But what is especially perplexing is the litany of errors from trying to read in one of it's previous ".cfg" files or any other found on the web:
errors_in_reading_cfg_file

Here are the example '.cfg' files that used to work ...

So I gave the compile a try. The external dependences were the death of this attempt. The tool from Rentzsch gave me pause but ... ok. Loaded that and got past one build error. Would be nice to not have to depend on an external tool...

mogenerator
Wolf Rentzsch

Then got to th Fragaria tool...
Fragaria
Jonathan Mitchell

Turns out it is not ARC and not smoothly converted. I tried a simple convert but after getting a litany of errors, it occurred to me that this tool may want other tools to be built... and so on and so on...

Long story short, without UncrustifyX, BBUncrustifyPlugin-Xcode by Benoît Bourdon becomes less attractive as figuring out exactly what the uncrustify settings do at the conf field level is a long tedious process of trial and error. Great companion tool, I miss UncrustifyX!

Possible improvements

Hello Ryan,

First of all I want to tell you UncrustifyX is a great tool ! I use it config Uncrustify for formatting Objective-C sources.

I have some suggestions for improvement (possibly because I don't fully understand the usage of UncrustifyX yet):

  • A 'Getting Started' instruction video/manual how to use UncrustifyX.
  • The usage of the preview in the documentation window: most of the time nothing happens in the preview window when changing a setting. Do I have to include my own source file in the preview to see the effects ?
  • Make the list of options expand/collapse by clicking on categories

Thank you for any advice
Frank

how to use it?

App not signed

I downloaded the app is not signed and will not run without turning off the check from the OS. Is there a way to sign the app?

Dependency 'frageria' is missing

When I do git submodule init and update, I get:

fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

I've submitted a PR that makes the README say the project is currently broken - might save other people some time.

Live Preview?

After looking through the code, it seems like you're running Uncrustify on files each time, meaning adding live preview of changes would require a few architecture changes.

Is this something you have considered? (As a contributor to other projects, I know, "Pull requests welcome!" is the standard answer for things like this.) Is this a thing you've planned for? Was it in your mental roadmap? Or is it not at all in your personal use case?

UncrustifyX won't build.

I've found UncrustifyX a very useful tool and I'd like to contribute to its development. However, doing a basic recursive git clone to get the submodules checked out there seem to be a lot of errors that are preventing the app from building, a lot of them related to ARC. Would it be possible for the authors of the application to release a new build against updated libraries?
