the-growroom's Issues

Aquaponics version

I love this design / concept.
But would be amazing if there was an aquaponics version of this!
Not sure where the best place to put this fish tank would be - I guess at the bottom due to weight...
Anyway, just an idea.

How heavy is this?

Hi! Amazing project! I looked through the guide and didn't notice: about how heavy is the structure? It seems like it will put weight on 5 points, so I wonder if it it safe to put on a roofdeck. Will it need anchoring to keep it from rolling away if it is put outside or somewhere windy?

Open Source but propritary format?

I don't run Autodesk for numerous reasons. Is there any way to get this converted to a format I can import into OpenSCAD (Blows away Autodesk products) such as .stl I tried using an online converter but it just reported errors in the .dwg files.

Desktop version

Hi! Amazing project that I'ld love to attempt! I would love to build a desktop version first so I can get familiar with the process and make it hydroponic.
How could I scale it down in size effectively? Considering i'ld probably need to adapt the number of shelves to keep a decent spacing
Hoping for some guidelines on the process

Thank you

Resizing

The drawings don't open and can't be resized so kinda useless for someone who wants to make it smaller but lacks the dfx skills to resize it in code would be nice in a svg file.

Solutions on resizing scaling etc..

Hi,
I just got done cutting and assembling TheGrowroom, in the US. Same issues as some have posted.

Wrong size or file too big.
I selected each rectangle and my cad program allows me to enter 96" and 48" that scaled the panel and every shape within with a margin of error of 0.062" in 8 feet. My program allows me to save a selection as a single drawing. I wind up with 12 dxf drawings in us dimensions

Missing part. One of the parts on the layer that requires 5 curved puzzle parts is not on a panel. When I opened the .dxf drawings in the software for tootpaths I can center vectors in material, and I cut a lot of the wedges and moved them to other panels, spread them out among the other parts, this freed up space on one sheet of plywood to add the missing part and to recut any parts that didn't turn out well.

This reduced my sheets required to12. I used a 1/4 inch solid carbide uncut spiral bit after some sanding all the parts fit

Cut list file format

Any chance that the cut list and plans will be issued in a format other than UNIX? A plain pdf, for example.

Sizing of CNC parts

Is there a more accurate document regarding the sizing of the CNC-Milled parts?
We are a school and I would love to get some students building this as a project!

How to use

I have seen the building manual, but I think another document with recommendations on how to use, like appropriate techniques, soil, seeds, watering and other usage instructions could be useful.
I know this might vary according to location, but some of the instructions could be universal.

Error on Sheet 10

Hi guys just doing a dry fit and I've noticed that there is a error on part B on DWG 10

one is missing the large slot or part A1 and the other is missing the small hole on the inboard edge for the rib supporting the second part A

Confused about how to use...

Just saw your collaboration with IKEA! Bravo guys!! I read a brief article and am very in love with the concept however I am completely confused on how one would access the higher shelves for watering and harvesting. Am I missing something? Also, this is meant for outside correct?

Self-watering

It would be great to include or attach a water collection system.
I would start altering the design with a slight slope and connecting the levels with tubes.
So it just needs one hose connected on the top and the water can run to the bottom in a spiral.

AutoCAD drawings or scaled blueprints request

Hi,
I'm a carpentry student and would like to build this project with AutoCAD or complete scaled blueprint drawings.
Have these been created? If so, please attach them to the other open source documents.

Plywood Thickness and Imperial vs. Metric Measurements

Here is the USA we use imperial measurements and thus finding plywood that meets the 18mm thickness will either be slightly off (.688 inches or 17.475mm) or prohibitively expensive to purchase (imported birch faced at $40 USD/sheet). Will using a slightly smaller thickness material affect the product's assembly or design integrity?

Needs work

The self assembly is good with the mallet and interlocking but it's useless unless the side walls are integrated in to the tool less construction.
It also gives no details on how it it waterproof. When working with soil this is vital as is having something to catch the excess water.
A reasonable idea if not viable Imo.

Weather Proofing for long lasting

Beautiful plans, thanks for designing them!

My question is, as this might sit outside do you have any advice on weather-proofing it or is this design ideally used for indoor / sheltered purposes?

Thanks in advance

How do I download the DXF file?

Hell

Great idea and design but, I can't download the DXF file. When I click the download button, it just opens the file in the browser, it doesn't download.

Your help would be appreciated.

Regards - John

Plans too large

The only company I found that can do this for me says that the .dxf plans are too large for their software. They have asked me for files for each of the 12 sheets individually. Is this possible or available?
