What do you think about adding a menu item that opens https://chat.openai.com/chat in a full browser? Maybe also to the repo and while you're in there, add a link to your twitter and pick up some deserved love as more people discover this handy little app.
I've been seeing this a bit, can I send screenshots privately to you @vincelwt ? I've seen three answers where the code is obviously cut mid-word and i don't know how to get it to show the whole result. Is there a limitation to the amount of code used / shown in the codeblock, and does that cause issues with the rest of the answer? i'm fine with some of the codeblock being interrupted (because too long), but then losing the rest of the answer (which might contain more than just the code) is a bit of a shame.
I really like how you've implemented this. At the risk of adding too much additional infrastructure, I wanted to suggest adding a way of exporting the contents of a chat.
Could be a button to dump the full chat (not sure about format, maybe the html/css, but might also be possible to convert to markdown/json). Or it could be an option to copy individual cells.
After having used the app once, it stays linked with a specific Space. Instead, the same window/menu should be accessible from any Space, without switching to the Space where it was first opened.
Whether the software can add the function of independent agent without using global agent
Hello,
Thanks for making this! I downloaded the arm64 image, copied ChatGPT to Applications, and tried to open it. I got the "damaged and can't be opened" prompt for unsigned apps. I attempted to follow the instructions below but didn't make any further progress. I also checked my privacy settings, which should allow me to open it.
Do you know if there's a workaround?
Mac OS Version: 13.0
Thanks,
Matt
Hi, so my ChatGPT app got stuck running on macOS Mojave 10.14.6.
I voted for restarting the whole OS.
Then opened ChatGPT app and clicked on the icon on the topbar.
What I saw was this:
I was able to type into it, but pressing enter did nothing. I took the screenshot and clicked away.
Now, when I click it again, all I see is:
Since I'm operating on a device without a mouse, I cannot right-click on it to quit it and try and restart the app, so my only choice is to restart macOS and hope it'll work this time.
Any ideas about what I could do, short of waiting for a new build which enables ctrl-click/cmd-click/alt-click for accessing the topbar menu?
The pop-up window doesn't seem to be fully multi-screen aware yet.
Expected behavior: when using the cmd+shift+g keyboard shortcut, the pop-up window appears on the display with the currently-active menubar
Current behavior: pop-up window appears on the screen where the menubar icon was most recently clicked (with the mouse), even if the active menubar has shifted to another display.
I am getting an error "Too many requests, please slow down" when using this program but I am able to use the website directly (chat.openai.com) without issue. Not sure what changed in the latest release to cause this.
Does not affect the use, but not very beautiful
could a conversation be screenshotted so that it can be shared quickly on twitter? this would really blow up the usage i think.
so what i'm thinking is, if a question and a response could be tickboxed, and a share sheet was available, or even just a way of saving the question and the response to a screenshot (or even to clipboard if user doesn't want to save it), then being able to quickly share these via iMessage and twitter and slack would seriously very, very quickly blow up the usage of this.
this is by far the coolest thing i've ever seen, i know a bit of bash but none of python, and i'm using very verbose descriptions, and bash code examples, to have chatgpt show me how to transfer a bash script i use for work, to python. i'm getting seriously good results and it's all thanks to you coding this and making it available.
but i want to share what this is telling me, and what i'm asking it, so that others will quickly also start using your topbar tool.
this is a real lifesaver for a low-level software tester like me, who has spent so much time writing bash scripts and then upon trying to share them from macOS/zsh to windows10, them just not working. i have so many usecases for your tool that i'm just getting started.
I press the sign up button for openai but it does not do anything. thx
So you can hear your responses rather reading them.
so it took me a while to figure out that i need to have a physical mouse with a rightmousebutton and rightmousebutton click on the icon in order to bring out the Settings and Quit. I kept ctrl-clicking, opt-clicking, cmd-clicking on it, and nothing would happen.
Would be cool if you could assign a keyboard shortcut to open the app, so you would be able to use it like Spotlight almost.
So if I ask a question and accidentally press return before finishing the question, and then click on the Edit icon, the question I've formulated does not visually change in any way (no black background added or something visual like that) to communicate that i'm editing the question. also it seems that the answer is being queried from the chatgpt ai, even though the questioning should be halted if i'm starting to edit, right? cos there's changes incoming.
I am a fan of the product and have some ideas for making the user experience even better, Here are a few of them
Many applications use Cmd+Shift+g for "find previous". As this app mature, it would be great to include a preference for a user-specified global shortcut.
As the title says
Can you add the function of configuring api
Same as title. I looked for everywhere, but not able to find the option to logout. I wonder if we have this function for now. Thanks.
Hey Vince,
Thanks for making this.
Trying to log in but it seems I cant paste into the window and right clicks aren't triggering anything, either. Any chance those can be enabled?
Tested in macos Monterey 12.6.1 and the latest Ventura, same behavior in both.
thanks again
Would it be possible to allow cmd- and cmd+ to work for zooming out and zooming in, i.e., decreasing/increasing the fontsize?
I found Menubar X, an app exclusive to Mac, to be a great solution for placing arbitrary apps in the menu bar. It's been working great for me with ChatGPT and Open AI Playground. I'm thankful to the contributors of the GitHub project for their hard work, but I'm also glad to have found an alternative that works better for my needs.
Hi, so sometimes I post a question and all I get is the bottom right corner "." ".." "..." looping indefinitely, and nothing seems to be happening. Could I either press esc, or click on that looper, to halt it and try again. This seems to be a different timeout from what the ChatGPT provides - seems more like the app itself is timing out and not sending something out.
@vincelwt any take on what to do about this? should the enduser just know to right-click on the topbar icon and restart the thread?
Hi,
I want to contribute to your project. I can make translation, code, 2D graphics - icons, logos. Will you be interested?
Thank you in advance.

why is it so text slow when the answer text , is there any way to improve it.
When launching the app through spotlight, the textfield input should be focused.
Also it would be cool to be able to hide the app by hitting the escape key.
Currently, mouse interation is required for both of these actions.
Right now I'm able to drag the window a bit wider, but I can't make it taller. If the framework you're using allows it to be resized it'd be cool to be able to utilize more of the screen.
Thank you for open-sourcing your app. I noticed that it makes use of an analytics library but I am not sure what it does or what its purpose is.
The README contains no hint to telemetry being used whatsoever. I think it would be really useful for people to know what analytics are being gathered so that it is easier for them to make an informed decision on whether to use your app.
i just wrote something, got that "." ".." "..." loader at the bottom right corner of the window.. and thought, i'll just cmd-a select all, and cmd-x cut it from my chat textfield, and cmd-x does nothing. interesting, since cmd-c, cmd-a and cmd-v work.
