onboarding's Issues

Replace picture in README with animated gif

This tweet has an animated gif of Matt Might’s illustrated guide to a PhD. I’d love to incorporate it into the README file of this repo rather than the static image that’s there right now.

I could also be a different size I think, at the moment the picture is rather overwhelmingly large (which may actually be a message in itself!)

Add git & GitHub resources to README

  • Link to MozWOW resources.
  • Set expectations
    • Make sure to explain philosophy of "Just do it" rather than learning everything from first principles.

merge onboarding+projectmanagement into a template

@KirstieJane - i really like the project management and onboarding things you have setup. i forked the project management and started turning it into a template that people could use like the software carpentry template.

i think the onboarding can be merged with it into a single template repo. any thoughts before i go ahead and do this?

Add onboarding step - getting set up on git & github

I'm working through getting git & github set up with @minnieho1115 today and it occurs to me that this should be a meeting that I have with every new lab member.

  • Install github desktop (unless you're confident with the command line)
  • Install git bash (if on windows) & setup user name and email
  • Install a text editor - I recommend vs code

Good to then demo the links between all of these three and how they stay in sync.
