What difference are you hoping to achieve? Mono files should already play from both speakers, or do they not?

I don't think mono samples can be panned?
Anyway, maybe it makes more sense to convert stereo to mono, then, if
you say there is no audible difference? Save memory instead of space.

I’m not sure if you realize the difference between mono and stereo. True stereo is composed of two independent channels. Each channel contains a slightly different version of the audio, and together the channels create an illusion of audio perspective & directionality. If you just take a mono sample (with one audio channel) and play the single channel to both speakers, it’s still mono, there is no sense of perspective nor direction. (Though you can still pull some simple tricks like pan between the speakers to move the audio source left/right.)
Now if you have some true stereo samples (with two different audio channels), converting to mono would lose information. If you have a mono sample, it should already play from both speakers, it just lacks the “space” present in a stereo recording. “Upscaling” mono to stereo does not make much sense, at least until you know what you want from it.
