screenshotassistant's Issues

Add option to exlude navigation and/or status bar

Hey,

I think it would be nice if there was an option to exclude the navigation bar, since this part of the screen is almost always obsolete and not relevant for the screenshot.
Maybe a similar option for the status bar could make sense, too. Not as useless as the navigation bar, but also not always that relevant :)

Add to app drawer

At the moment, the app doesn't appear in the app drawer. If the user forgets to add it as an assistant at time of install, they might not know how to access it.

I suggest (if this is possible) making it appear as a "normal" app in the app drawer. Maybe accessing it via this route just shows an info screen that tells the user to add it as an assistant. I don't think this will add much unnecessary clutter.

Quick shortcuts to most recent share destinations

Some apps, Firefox for example, remember the last one or two share destinations, and present those to the user as separate buttons next to the share button. This would be useful in this app. See screenshot of Firefox menu with Flashify and NewTube as last two share destinations I picked.

Glitched upside down screenshot in landscape mode on Android 10

As the title suggests, on landscape mode screenshots taken are troubled.

ROM : PixelExperience Q October patch

Screenshot_20191024-223555

This is not the issue with just only this project, same result with the original Screenshot Assistant app & also another similar FOSS app Screenshot Sharer.

But mapping assist app with Macrodroid for screenshots or using Remap Assistant module from Cometin app doesn't capture such glitched shots. As I understand these apps use different method of capturing since I get notification for the shots like I'd get if I use Android's screenshots shortcuts.

This might not be an issue with this project, rather an issue with Android 10 itself or just my ROM.

Add ability to save screenshot

I understand the workflow of just using Share, but sometimes you just want to save a screenshot. E.g. if you want to later upload it to a web-based forum that you cannot "share" to.

Please can you add a save feature, either as a separate button next to share, or within the Share list I suppose, although I would prefer a separate button.

Many thanks for creating this app.

Re-enters About screen instead of taking a screenshot

If you enter the About screen, then leave it without pressing back, e.g. by pressing Home, or by clicking on one of the github links, next time you try to make a screenshot (by long pressing Home), the About screen is shown again.

I would argue that if the user has left the About screen by any means (not just by pressing back), then later long presses Home, they are expecting to take a new screenshot, not see the About page again!

Custom name/Caption

Sometimes I would like to rename the shots to something contextual/captioning while sharing/saving. Currently, you have to save it (I use Phone Saver) and open a gallery to do that, which breaks the easy work flow

[Feature Request] Add option to pin screenshot over apps

Use case :

  • Avoid opening two apps side by side for when you only need to see something from one of the opened apps and interact with the other one.
  • Avoid scrolling back to check something when you're reading from a PDF file for example and there's a formula or graph somewhere which you are supposed to read its interpretation while still looking at it.

Options :

  • The pinned screenshot should be resizable when you drag its borders.
  • The screenshot should be movable when you drag it.
  • The feature should be optional for users who are not willing to grant overlay permission.

Images always come out as JPEGs internally

Thank you for creating this wonderful app.
๐Ÿ‘
There is one problem Iโ€™ve found:

  1. I take a screenshot.
  2. I choose PNG as the format.
  3. I share it with my computer using Bluetooth.
  4. I open it with an image viewer.
  5. The image viewer says that the file is not a valid PNG.
  6. I open the image with a hex editor.
  7. The first letters in the file are: JFIF (indicating the file is actually a JPEG), when the first letters should be: PNG.

I did the same thing but chose WEBP as the format, but the file still started with: JFIF, instead of something like: RIFFr WEBPVP8.

I also redid both of the aforementioned actions, but shared the file using Phone Saver (version 5.2.1), but the same thing happened.

It seems that the file always comes out as a JPEG on the inside, and only the file extension (.jpeg, .png, .webp) changes.

(Note: Most programs (like the web browsers) are coded the silently ignore a disparity between file extension and contents, which might have masked this issue.)

I am using F-Droid Screenshot Assistant (version 2.0.1), with Android 9.

If you need more diagnostics information, just ask.

Store screenshot in PNG format by default

JPEG usually produce some noises due to its lossy encoding method, which is probably affect the image quality even if this app is set to use the PNG format. If this app use PNG format to store the mage by default while the app is doing capture on screen, it would avoid some visual artifacts around high-contrast areas, also give benifits to users while using PNG and WEBP formats.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Network_Graphics#Comparison_with_other_file_formats

A possible way to save from the app

I'm thinking about a feature (that is toogleable for those who don't want to allow storage permission) to save the screenshot directly from the app

Landscape mode screenshots

Currently the app is unable to support taking screenshots in landscape mode. If you attempt to take one in landscape, the resulting image is stretched out:

Make Background blurry behind a screenshot editor

after a screenshot is taken, the screenshot is put in front, smaller and able to be cropped, but the background of that screenshot editor stays sharp, so it can be pretty confusing when cropping the photo, and it would look aesthetically more pleasing.

Please make the background in the editor blurry.
