smtuas's Introduction

smtuas

Safety Management Tools for Unmanned Aerial Systems.

This repository may eventually hold documentation and code related to any and every aspect of making CanberraUAV safer. At the moment, we are only using the github ticket system to organise ourselves.

smtuas's Issues

Appropriate mailing list configuration

We now have a private mailing list. It may not yet be fully configured. We need to ensure:

  • anonymopus users can't sign up and access the archives without approval
  • anonymous users can't access the archives
  • anonymous users can submit HIA reports to the mailing list
  • list members/moderators CAN release anonymous submissions (from quarantine) to the list

replace unfriendly anonymous message reply with something more friendly

When a non-member posts to the safety list, they get a message like the following:

Your mail to 'Canberrauav-safety-private' with the subject

test message or whatever your subject line was

Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.

The reason it is being held:

Post by non-member to a members-only list

Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive
notification of the moderator's decision. If you would like to cancel
this posting, please visit the following URL:

http://some_url_with_a_link_to_stuff

That's not right. It should say "Thankyou for your submission to the CanberraUAV Safety list. etc. etc.",
provide a somewhat soothing assurance about respecting requests for confidentiality, and express gratitude for contribtuing to make CanberraUAV safer.

Also, I'm not sure we should be including the undo-link.

compose appropriate welcome_msg for mailing list

configure a "welcome_msg" setting for the mailing list, which reminds subscriber of their responsabilities regarding privacy of public/member HIA report submissions (including link to web page re: #2). This ticket pulled out of #1.

This is what the mailman help says about welcome_msg setting:

welcome_msg (general): List-specific text prepended to new-subscriber welcome message

This value, if any, will be added to the front of the new-subscriber welcome message. The rest of the welcome message already describes the important addresses and URLs for the mailing list, so you don't need to include any of that kind of stuff here. This should just contain mission-specific kinds of things, like etiquette policies or team orientation, or that kind of thing.

Note that this text will be wrapped, according to the following rules:

Each paragraph is filled so that no line is longer than 70 characters.
Any line that begins with whitespace is not filled.
A blank line separates paragraphs.

create first generation HIA reports

#2 requires specific HIA reports to be published on our web page.

This ticket is to create "minimum adequate" version, which is a word/openoffice document temaplate. HIA reporting workflow would be:

  1. download the appropriate HIA form
  2. fill in the form off-line
  3. submit the form to the safety team, via the mailing list

This ticket can be closed when three adequate forms (document templates) are published in the git repository:

  • Hazard Report
  • Incident Report
  • Accident Report

public web page - about the safety team

We need a page on the web site about the CanberraUAV Safety Team.

It should:

  • contain links to the Hazard, Incident and Accident forms
  • invite ANYONE to submit a HIA report to the Safety Team
  • link to the private mailing list, as a method for submitting HIA reports to the team (preffered)
  • invite ANYONE to discretely provide a paper of even verbal HIA report to one of the team members personally

Outline Objectives:

  • continuosly improve CanberraUAV's safety
  • deliver a CanberraUAV Safety Management System before the 2014/2015 AGM
  • transition from the current "ad-hoc safety management team" to a higher capability maturity level SMS during the 2015/2016 season.

More information:

  • link to SMS literature (CASA, ICAO, Wikipedia, etc)

Announcements/Recommendations - to the general mailing list, Monday Mumble sessions, etc.

compose appropriate goodby_msg for the mailing list

Similar to #4, we need an appropriate goodby_msg for the mailing list that reminds unsubscribers of their responsability to maintain privacy of HIA reports, including a link to the web page from #2. This ticket pulled out of #1 as a separate task.

This is what the mailman help says about goodby_msg:

goodbye_msg (general): Text sent to people leaving the list. If empty, no special text will be added to the unsubscribe message.

get CanberraUAV endorsement for Safety Team activities

We have conversational concensus for our activities with a number of CanberraUAV members.

I think we need a more "official" mandate. Suggest this approach:

  1. to have an "on the agenda" discussion on mumble and/or the public list, where everyone has clearly had an opportunity to voice their opinion about what we are doing.
  2. Create a "CanberraUAV Safety Team 2014/15 - Terms Of Reference" document (single page) that has broad consensus from the open discussion.
  3. Seek "official endorsement" from the CanberraUAV committee, of the TOR document.
  4. Create the web page (#2), publically anounce it to the mailing list (and possibly DIY Drones, etc)
