icons's Issues

redesign VPN icon

Need a VPN icon that doesn't use a badge in the bottom right corner. This is because the network plug badges the status in the bottom right corner.

Some common metaphors I found for VPN include a shield or overlaying a keyhole on the generic networking icon

Rename applets-screenshooter

We've got our own screenshot app now, we don't need to use this name. We should change it to something more sane like "accessories-screenshot" or something

Create a test for palette

We should define all the colors from the icon palette, including shades so each of the gradient stops, and then write a test so that new icons must use the colors from the palette.

[$100] update audio-speakers icon [$100 awarded]

This is, at this point, one of the oldest icons in the set. It probably needs to be updated.

One of the big questions here is that the perspective is pretty different from other icons. Maybe we should consider a more straight-on design.

Another issue is if the speaker should remain "disembodied". Maybe it should have some kind of case? We should probably consider what kind of speakers people are connecting to their computers. Should it look like one of those hand-held bluetooth speakers or like something from a home audio setup? Should we stick to something that is more iconic even if it's less "realistic"?

New Mail Archive icon

the grey file cabinet is kind of dull and it seems that the box is more popular.

Maybe something with the shape kinda like this:
files-archive-box

But with colors more like this:
drawer-archive-icon

update go-jump

  • Missing 32px
  • Missing 64px
  • Missing 128px
  • Uses old Tango-ish dark blue.
  • Missing 16px
  • Missing 48px -rtl

@3x assets

HiDPI displays are coming out now that make sense at 3x scaling. We should go ahead and add @3x assets into the icon set...

Add "insert-object"

the action "insert-object" is prescribed by the fd.o spec, but missing here:

  • 16px
  • 24px
  • 32px
  • 48px
  • 64px
  • 128px

Make all 32px square icons bigger

They look small compared to others (like circles) and they're low on the canvas anyways. Keep the same basline. Rectangles need to be made taller to match as well.

AppCenter vs download arrow

The download icon on the website and the AppCenter icon are visually quite similar but the arrow shape is different:
download
AppCenter
I like the first shape much better and would like to see it also on the AppCenter icon.

The folder-network icon is a wireless symbol

As described in title, the folder icon is a wireless symbol, making little sense in the context. It can be observed in Files when you mount a network drive ("Connect to server")

64px Circle icons are sized and shadowed inconsistently

We need to decide which of these icons is sized correctly (including shadows) and adjust the others accordingly:

    • help-contents
    • help-info

The microhphone OSD state icons are not representative

As per this thread:

The icons in the OSD are not a good representation of the state. If I
see the icon in the OSD in the second screenshot, "microphone muted" is
the last thing I am thinking about. Same with the icon in the first
screenshot, which should stand for "microphone unmuted".

They also don't match the style of the icons in speaker mute/unmute.

Help in packaging our app icon

Hi there,

I'm part of the people that works on Notes. So we have the .svg icon for our app but we need help in handling its packaging, so I thought you guys might help.
This is the .svg, made by @KevDoy: notes.zip

We need help in these areas:

  • Extracting to all the different resolutions, including the @2x thing.
  • How to package the app so Elementary and other Ubuntu distros will use all the different resolutions (including the @2x).

Thanks,

Notes team

Differentiate between code mimes by color

In a folder full of HTML, PHP, JS and CSS files, it is difficult to differentiate between them quickly by color. All of the icons are gray and have very little difference except their symbol.

In general, the office MIME icons are nice and bold compared to the text source files which mostly have dull icons.

Can we get bold color in some more icons (like Numix-Circle)?

Drop help-hint

This isn't in the fd.o spec and I can't recall anywhere it's used

Less generic AppCenter icon [$100 awarded]

The colored square with an arrow seems pretty generic, maybe you could come up with something more unique

Daniel Fore (danrabbit):
I'm going to defer this from Loki. I've updated the AppCenter slightly, but I think we want to preserve a major brand change for a major feature that probably won't come this cycle.

Redesign error icons

The current error icon is kind of this traditional bar thingy we inherited from Tango or something but it's not very nice looking.

Stumbled across this and it looks a bit nicer as the symbolic variant

ui-kit

Support EDS categories

If I understand correctly, EDS has support for categories (and their icons) already.

We should support that and show the category icon in the sidebar and view and allow the category to be set in the event editing and creation dialog

Daniel Fore (danrabbit):
It looks like EDS doesn't get or install the icons to the regular icon theme. I'm not sure there's a convention for this already. But we could just make our own -symbolic icons in the "categories" folder with the prefix "event".

So we'd want to create some icons like "event-birthday-symbolic" and "event-holiday-symbolic" etc
