I think it is better not to split Editors section into Editors-CLI and Editors-GUI, as was introduced in #107. Both Emacs and ViM have GUI as well, yet are classified as CLI-only tools, which is misleading. The fix is either to mention Emacs and ViM in both sections or even better, to revert back to single Editors section. Also, there are CLI and GUI web browsers, music players, etc. This way many categories should have separate CLI/GUI sections.

The gaming section is currently very unorganized, I would suggest ordering them by genre. Civilizations 5, although a great game, is mainly available through Steam, so you might want to remove it. Here are some additions (I tested most of them):

Hi all visitors, if you are using an app that is not working anymore or it has been deprecated/ no longer maintained -> PLEASE NOTIFY ME BY OPENING AN ISSUE. Be aware that not all deprecated/ no longer maintained app is bad. I will consider whether it is still worthy to be on the list and if there is any fork/ replacement that gets the job done better.

In the case of harmful apps, it would be nice if you specify in what condition you did find or suspect that the app is doing something pernicious/ where you downloaded it (official PPA/ official page/ third party page)/ how it did affect you and your computer..... + any information that you think may help me reproduce the issue you encountered.

I play these games on Arch Linux without any problem. You can consider add them to the list.

You can always make a suggestion as an issue tab for apps that are not on the list. I will personally check out the app and verify if it is working, properly mantained, safe to use (as a user not a security expert).
Translation is very much appreciated. You can either fork this and remake your own translation or use the same repo with me. I highly recommend translator to review the commit log every month since updates and new apps are coming at moderate rate.
If you happen to be multilingual, please don't just add your item in the main README but also in other translation versions 😄

I find your list to be really cool! One thing I found very useful and I highly recommend others to try is WPS Suite.

I've tried foxit reader (I'm using foxit version 2.3). It is very slow at startup and it generally takes a lot of CPU amount. I really do not know whether it is a problem related to me, or their new versions of it. Foxit used to very cool, and it is a lot close to Adobe things. One thing I really didn't like about Foxit is, that they do not have presentation mode.
I've also tried Okular. While it is RAM and CPU friendly, its UI is quite missed-up. The icons are ugly, you can not remove some panels. Okular has a presentation mode, but on the other hand their font is quite ugly. I mean, when I use chrome, or foxit I get a clear and a nice font, however when using Okular the font becomes quite different.

Evince is very cool, it is simple, fast, has presentation view, preserve your font (does exactly what a simple pdf reader should do). Don't get fool by its simplicity, it is very powerful though.

Google chrome has a nice pdf viewer itself! compared to Foxit, it really doesn't use that much of CPU or RAM (Ok, chrome is draining your RAM anyway, it is not its pdf reader fault).

Sayonara is a small, clear and fast audio player for Linux written in C++, supported by the Qt framework. It uses Gstreamer as audio backend.

I think the layout of the page would be much more readable if the icons where placed to the left (right in the beginning of each line) since it would make it easier for the reader to quickly navigate with the eyes a vertically aligned sequence of icons, instead of zig-zagging on the current end-of-line icons.

Marlin seems to be abandoned project, at least according to this.

Many of the entry descriptions are very subjective, for example:

Numix Icon Theme - One of the best icon theme for ubuntu linux
uGet - The best download manager for linux.

They probably should be adjusted to be more objective about the software's qualities.

To tell the truth, before I decided to translate this list, I really didn't realize that there was another Chinese version on GitHub. I did search on the GitHub with the keyword like "awesome-linux-software", "awesome-linux-software-cn", but that repo was not in the results returned. :)

I started my repo based on yours, and I want to add something more that are best for Chinese Linux Users.:)

While I think I understand that the goal was to convey the idea of "gratis", this symbol is also notoriously associated with the idea of "non-commercial". And that's completely opposite to both Free Software and Open Source definitions.

I'd suggest using the actual word "gratis", or, even better, not displaying anything at all (since the gratis aspect is just a detail in comparison to the much broader impact of the ideals of software freedom).

Please consider adding Webstorm and other obscure IDE's from Jetbrains?
They work beautifully on Ubuntu, (probably other linux systems too).
Although they are commercial applications, they are high quality and free for students... who are probably most likely to come across this list.

The inclusion of "Ubuntu" specifically in the repository title is confusing, and implies that the list is only for Ubuntu, when it is for users of Linux distributions, generally.

A very small number of the included applications are Ubuntu-specific, such as the Ubuntu SDK. The large majority are available on any linux distribution.

Other distributions (elementaryOS, Mint) are beginning to take a larger portion of the desktop linux share. Mint is even ranked higher than Ubuntu on distrowatch.org (not exactly a scientific source, but all the same, some indicator of interest). Also, many of us use other distributions such as Fedora, Arch, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, CentOS, SUSE, Manjaro, and literally hundreds of others.

Perhaps it would be pertinent to create an "Ubuntu" category for any Ubuntu-specific software and name this repository "awesome-linux-software".
