config-pin P9_28 pwm doesn't start eCAP2_in_PWM2_out

Hi There,

In the config-pin utility, there is only one "pwm" option for pin P9_28. However P9_28 is either EHRPWM0_syncouin, or ECAPPWM2 output, which is far more useful. P9_28 can be set to PWM output via "echo pwm2 > state" in /sys/devices/platform/ocp/ocp:P9_28_pinmux, but it would be spiffy if the config-pin utility had both options.

Running as PWM

Hello everyone,

I recently updated my Kernel to 4.1.x and found that is a lot simpler to use the gpios this way and it seems to work great with the univ-all.dts

However, this dts does not allow me to take advantage of any pwm pins as almost every pin is setup as a digital gpio.

What would be the correct way to enable the 8 pwm pins?

4DCAPE43 LCD Cape overlay custom

Hi Robert,
I bought a 4DCAPE43 LCD Cape but I've some doubt regarding overlay.
I need to modify the BB-BONE-LCD4-01 that is automatically recognized when LCD CAPE43 is attached and disabled GPIO0_15 (Enter Button).
I then modify the corresponding dbto in /lib/firmware (decompiled and recompiled) but the button still works. I also removed the dbto in /lib/firmware folder but it's loaded the same at startup.
From where this file (BB-BONE-LCD4-01-00A1.dtbo) is taken? Is it loaded from EEPROM of LCD CAPE 43? How I can apply my custom overlay for this LCD?

Minimum required dtc version

Hello community,

I am trying to build the overlays using dtc 1.4.7 which should be supported yet, but my dtc reports syntax error at the following files:

src/arm/BBORG_GAMEPUP-00A2.dts
src/arm/BBORG_SERVO-00A2.dts
src/arm/BBAI_BB-BONE-LCD4-01-00A1.dts

When I delete the files, the rest of project is built successfully.

Expected behavior: Either increase the minimal supported dtc version or fix the files above in order to be compatible with older dtc.

BBBMini dtb not working on kernel 4.14 and 4.19

Need integrate m41t81 with device tree overlay

I want to integrate m41t81 rtc device's with the BBB.

System used: 4.4.19-ti-r41
Hardware: Beaglebone Black
My dts script (BB-RTC-01-00A0.dts)

The RTC device is on i2c-2 (P9.19 SCL and P9.20 SDA).

This command works fine :

My dts file works fine on BBB 3.8 Kernel ! (Just need to change i2c2 with ic2c1).
But I need to last kernel version to used others devices (like sc16is7xx)..

Load a dto at startup

Hi,
I try to load the dto for the I2C-1-Bus and a second dto for my extern ADC.
cape_enable=bone_capemgr.enable_partno=BB-I2C1
works.

cape_enable=bone_capemgr.enable_partno=BB-I2C1 , BB-ADC-GPIO

didn't work. Only BB.I2C1 is loaded:

PWM on 4.4.6

My goal is to have 4 Pins enabled as PWMs. (P9_16, P9_14, P8_13, P8_19).
I only need to change the duty on them they could have all the same period.
Through Adafruit_BBIO on the 14.03 ubuntu image this worked fine,
now im trying to upgrade to 4.4.x but feel completely lost.

I also tried to use the base of the bacone and compile my own device tree but still could not get all my 4 Pins working at the same time.

Build of config-pin.c fails when $(CC) variable is set

Hello community,

since commit 6ba194a there is a decent error in Makefile at line 120:

$(CC)gcc -o config-pin ./tools/pmunts_muntsos/config-pin.c

The content of $(CC) variable is concatenated with gcc string which creates nonsense together. I believe, the line should be

$(CC) -o config-pin ./tools/pmunts_muntsos/config-pin.c

PWM at 4.14

I tried loading several PWM overlays on BBB debian with 4.14 kernel.
Sysfs files seems to work, at least there is something in /sys/class/pwm/
But when I try to read PWMSS memory at /dev/mem/ with devmem2 I get only bus-error:

sudo ./devmem2 0x48304000
/dev/mem opened.
Memory mapped at address 0xb6feb000.
Bus error

Also the PRU can't access the PWMSS0/1/2 registers.

Build fails in a proxied environment

The latest change to dtc_overlay.sh (0e3c940) modified the protocol for cloning the dtc tool from https:// to git://. Unfortunately, the git:// protocol cannot be used in a proxied environment.

Is there a specific reason as to why the protocol has been changed?

Debian packaging doesn't install tools/dtbo

Not having the dtbo script as an initramfs hook means that *.dtbo doesn't get included in the initrd's /lib/firmware by update-initramfs, and bone_capemgr.enable_partno= and friends don't work.

Problems with enabling customized overlay and onboard WIFI on BBBW, and auto-loading overlay.

I wrote a .dts file to enable some functions (8 PWMs, 2 eQEPs, 2 I2Cs, 7 AINs) on a Beaglebone Black. And here is my uEnv.txt file which helps me to disable the HDMI to avoid conflicts.

It worked on my BBB without any problems. However, I have a few questions, and I was hoping that you could give me some guidance. My kernel version is: Linux arm 4.4.68-ti-r108 #1 SMP Fri Jun 9 18:52:39 UTC 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux

  1. How to change my uEnv.txt accordingly on a Beaglebone Black Wireless, such that I'm able to activate all these functions and enable the onboard WIFI. Currently this combo of .dts and uEnv.txt worked fine on Beaglebone Black Wireless, except that the onboard WIFI doesn't get activated. So, what should I do to fix that?

  2. How to get the .dts file I wrote automatically loaded on system boot? Currently I'm using a shell script to activate the overlay. I've tried the methods you mentioned on the wiki page, but I wasn't able to get it loaded on boot.

  3. It seems that every time I activate my overlay, the pwmchip# directories in /sys/devices/platform/ocp/4830#000.epwmss/4830#200.pwm/pwm/ paths change their number randomly. For example, one time a PWM directory can be /sys/devices/platform/ocp/48300000.epwmss/48300200.pwm/pwm/pwmchip0, another time the directory can be /sys/devices/platform/ocp/48300000.epwmss/48300200.pwm/pwm/pwmchip2, 0 changes to 2. Why that happens? Is there a way to fix those numbers?

Cannot load can modules

I have debian 9 stretch in my Beaglebone Black. I am not able to load can modules which are can, can-dev.
I am only able to load can-raw. I am checking loaded modules using command "lsmod | grep can" which only shows can-raw.

What am I missing to install ?

To try and solve this I did:

Distribute the headers in the Debian package

Hi,

this is a request for the debian package bb-cape-overlays, I apologize if it's a little off-topic but I didn't know where else to report it.

Could you please make the debian package install the include files in include/dt-bindings/ into a system path like /usr/include/ ?

Even having that in a separate bb-cape-overlays-dev package would be OK.

The constant defined by bb.org-overlays are quite useful when writing custom devicetree overlays, and in order to use them in my own overlays I am doing something like this in the Makefile at the moment:

Custom audio cape

Hi, I'm making a custom audio cape for BBB. The goal is to record sound using microphones.
I used tlv320aic3106 codec, modified BB-BONE-AUDI....dts.
Replaced all 3104 with 3106, swapped axr0 with axr2 (because of a mistake in my board). Enabled micbias.
Compiled, enabled it in uEnv.txt.
But there is no audio in the recordings. I can see data movement on mcasp bus on an oscilloscope. And looks like arecord is working fine. If I remove custom cape arecord is stuck (as expected).

EDIT: I found out that micbias is not present, not in idle or while recording.

I get the FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND error when trying to use a custom uboot overlay

I've been using a custom cape designed by a user with debian 8 and the 3.8 kernel branch just fine for the last year. Recently, I decided to try to use it in Newer Debian releases (I've tried both scratch and buster) because I need libraries and utils available since scratch. I understood that the newer kernels deprecated kernel overlays in favor of uboot overlays, but I haven't been able to use this overlay with uboot without getting the error mentioned on the title.

The firmware blob was built by pulling the this repo, copying the source to the src/arm folder and running make with the name file, then copied to the firmwares directory. I've been trying for several days now searching the web for answers, but I haven't found any hints as to why this could be failing. The error code is not particularly descriptive.

HDMI audio osc disabled with standard overlay on BBBW

I think i may have an issue with the overlays loaded at the startup of my BeagleBone Black

My issue is that HDMI works but not Audio (which i want to use with an external i2s DAC).
I have an oscilloscope to debug the i2s protocol.
I managed to get it to work (audio to i2s) a month ago but i cannot reproduce it.

What makes me think it s related to the overlays is that the Audio Oscillator Enable pin (gpio1.27) is lo.

I think the issue is that GPIO 1. 27 is LO which desactivated the audio oscillator
The question is how to turn it on

Why would the Overlays not activate HDMI audio.

RS485 Overlay for Waveschare CAN/RS485 Cape

I try to get RS485 with the Waveshare CAN/RS485 to work on the latest Debian Buster Image (Debian 10.0 2019-07-07 4GB SD IoT) but had no success so far.

Since 2016 I had this cape running with a 3.8.XX Kernel but thought its time to update.
Unfortunately a lot changed since than, so my approach from back then does no longer work.

On 3.8 I just enabled UART4 using cape_enable=capemgr.enable_partno=BB-UART4 in the uEnv.txt and then used this ioctl (python) to switch RX/TX:

The Waveshare Cape uses Pin P9.42 (GPIO0_7) for switching RX/TX.
For I don't know what reason, this no longer works.

I tried to use the BB-UART4-RS485-00A0.dts uBoot overlay without success, but that's no surprise because it specifies P9.27 to switch RX/TX.

So I made a copy of that file and changes all P9_27 for P9_42 and gpio3_19 for gpio0_7, compiled it successful, copied it to /lib/firmware and put it into uEnv.txt.

Still no success :-(

By the way, receiving works but again, that's no surprise.

Any ideas what i do wrong?

Overlay for GPIO Matrix Failure

Performing a matrix of the GPIO pins via dtbo doesn't appear to be functional.

I've verified that I'm able to get the pins to work and that the keyboard performs as desired (rows produce results) with my second attempt. However, my first attempt - the matrix style dtbo - does not produce any results. I based it off of:

When I do a "make all" on Debian 10, I see messages like these when compiling:
