adicu.github.com-dep's Issues

Resources page?

Chris mentioned it would be nice to have something set up where we can list the resources from our workshops, etc. Like slides. I like this a lot.

CSS markup fixes

a lot of things that are classes should be ids

we should use classes better

Recreating pages on old website for new (ie: devfest page?)

Until we have a separate website/domain for devfest, should we port over the devfest page from the old website to the new one? And stick it under the events page? Because I feel like we don't want to lose the old stuff we've done, idk. It sort of has a record of what we've done thus far.

Pagination

We should limit the number of posts per page and then let you look at old posts.

home page header

i don't think it should say home, i think it should say Application Development Initiative

Replace post date with post category

I think it benefits no one to see the date when a post was made, and at any rate may confuse people when it comes to event posts.

It would be more useful to take up the space with a line saying the post type (event, project, or resource).

Jobs takes you to entirely new site

it should clearly indicate by some logo that it's going to do that or put the content in a div on our own site. Probably the former makes more sense.

Date spacing

The date seems a little cramped, and too close to the line, maybe put it on the right side of the title panel, or a little whitespace buffer.

FONT

Idk what looks good. I just updated with better helvetica but i think it might be a bit too thin. but it's really pretty. lemme know if you guys have font suggestions.

mailing list thing

doesn't look great right now, and doesn't really work well with the site as it is

this is part of a larger problem of boring grays, but we can specifically improve this by:

  • making the font a legible size
  • making the text field unrounded (which doesn't fit with the aesthetic of the rest of the page)
  • making the button unrounded (to be honest, i'm not sure I like that button anyway)

Clicking images on posts

I think expected behavior is to enlarge the image in a sort of overlay. See: bwog

I might be wrong, though. That's just what I expected instead of going to a new site or downloading a pdf

The gray is a little boring

I'm not exactly sure what the best solution is here.

My proposal:
We might consider making the hover color the background color (#76bfe5), but this of course causes problems with the logo. This can be solved by adding a white stroke around the whole logo. We may even have a version of that already, I'll check and update this issue.

The hover color can then become white, and the text color doesn't need to be changed.

In general, I think this looks better by adding color to the site and making it feel less static and dry, visually speaking. It also makes the text on the sidebar pop more, because black on gray sort of blends in a little too much.

Nav bar goes off the page

mailing list signup is cut off now. we should figure out how to be able to make the navbar scrollable

About Page / text

There's no info about what ADI is. This could be somewhere on the homepage (sticky post?), or a standalone about page.

Easter Egg

we should have the konami code easter egg and a giant star that says newcomer in the middle pops up and some awesome music(TBD) starts playing

general text/spacing fixes

I think this would go a long way towards resolving the issues raised in #29

a lot of our site looks awkward just due to the way we whitespace. let's fix that.

CSS Fixes!

.sidebar should have a min-height.

html {height: 101%;}
^ so that the scrollbar doesn't randomly appear/disappear

Possible Layout Change

So the website looks cool in a window, but in full screen the left-alignment is somewhat tacky. One possible idea would be, instead of having the menu on the left, center the menu and content on the window, letting the menu's darker color fade to white on the far left. This would balance the whitespace better, and shorten the post-dividing lines that extend awkwardly to the right side of the screen.

Make a new post script

That lets you pick your template, than puts a file with the proper name+date in the _posts directory

Archive

Do we want an archive of our posts?
